A Couple of Things…

Mom1.  Today would have been my mother’s 79th birthday.  Honestly, I don’t think she would have aged all that gracefully, but it would have been fun to watch.  I’m sure she would have been that special grandma to Sydney Rose, the kind that do everything against your wishes, the kind the grandkids love!  And I would like to think she would have been proud of how her daughter turned out.   Well I’d like to think so.  🙂

Happy Birthday Mom.  40 years gone, and miss you everyday.

video2.  Seriously, Couldn’t someone have fixed my hair for me????
Here now, City of Ventura employees sharing how green we try to be:

3. My conversation with a gentleman at the recent Latino Business awards presentation touched on what people’s “exit strategy” is for retiring from the work force. Mine is dying. And believe it or not, I’m totally fine with that. I’m happiest when I’m productive!

Lay's4. How can something so good be so evil? I’m referring of course to the new Lay’s Cheesy Garlic Bread favored potato chips.

5. It’s no secret that I play guitar. It’s also no secret that I suck at it. But I was playing around one night recently and I wrote a song (well the music) and I wondered to myself, “Have I heard this before?” So I started asking songwriters that I know whether they question themselves on songs they write. Everyone so far has admitted they do.

James Garner6. I was saddened by the passing of actor James Garner this week. I wasn’t so much into his show, The Rockford Files, but I LOVED his movie Support Your Local Sheriff. He was a great comedic actor. Also, just an aside and a sort of Six Degrees of Separation, Garner was actually born, James Scott Bumgarner…so very close to my married name Baumgardner. So we were sort of akin. RIP in James Garner. He was 86.

7. I placed a button on VenturaRocks.com where readers and fans of the website can make a donation to defray costs. The first few weeks I actually had a VERY small number of contributors but I was completely jazzed. Two of them I had never met before! One of them is the Mayor of a neighboring City! But then I got to thinking, 99.999999999999% of the readers had not made a contribution. What if I charged an annual membership, and maybe throw in a t-shirt. Would that be too much to ask for this service? Would I be able to retire? I’m thinking no and no. I’m still hoping for the honor system.

8 My view on life’s set backs: You can overcome them, or defeat the. Those are the choices. When you say you can’t do anything about it, you have succumbed.

Facebook quiz9. Have you seen that Facebook quiz you can fill out to see “What is Your Old Person Name?” I’m afraid mine would be “Pamela”.

10. I love the kind of laughter when you can’t talk because your body won’t cooperate with what you want to say and tears are rolling the your cheeks… It’s the best!

11. From my favorite quotes file, “Never love anyone who treats you like you’re ordinary.” ― Oscar Wilde

A Couple of Things…

Staci Brown1.  Staci Brown has been my roommate for about eight months and I JUST learned that she enjoys from time to time a little bit of coffee with her creamer.  I’m going to miss her when she moves out this month.

2. Syd Rose is doing well.  She did get her car insurance cancelled which freaked her out, but found another company with same coverage for $100 less.  Blessings in disguise rock!

3. I love it when you can figure out what people are mouthing (without speaking), like “Oh my God!” or “What the fuck?”  But then I realized deaf people do this all the time, so not so special a skill.

4. To the question, “Is everything expensive or am i just poor?”  The Answer is, “If you have to ask, yes and yes.”

5. I’m going to go out on a limb here, but I think I get the most hugs from the Blues loving crowd…Just saying.

City Hall6. My six year anniversary with the City was this past week (November 6), my boss brought in bagels in my honor.  How sweet is that?

7. You know that expression from the movie Field of Dreams?  “If you build it, they will come?”  Well it turns out, not so true.
You have to nurture it, you have promote it, you have to create something people actually want. Starting a new business?  Find out if it is needed and wanted.  Have a struggling business? Do surveys and see if people actually like what you are providing.

8. Recent news headline:  “Birthday Cake Is the New ‘It’ Flavor (Bye-Bye, Bacon).”  I couldn’t agree more.  I already love Birthday Cake flavored ice cream, plus my favorite body wash is in fact, Birthday Cake scented. TMI?

9. Have you ever met people who do things for you in order to make you indebted to them?  Yeah, me neither.

10. I think there should be a law that if you get one of those designer license plates, then your license plate holder should spell out what the fuck you’re trying to convey.  Some are obvious, others, not so much.

11. I love it when Syd Rose accidentally butt dials me.

12. What really confuses me is the ongoing debate of which one is correct, “Catercorner” or “Kitty-Corner”.  I tend to go with Catercorner because in the dictionary, under Kitty-Corner, it says its a variant of Catercorner.   Plus I believe it’s mostly a Canadian term, so there you go.

Ventura Rocks13.  Have I mentioned recently how much I love my town?

14. From my favorite quotes file: “Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and you help then to become what they are capable of being.”  Goethe

Thanks for listening!

A Couple of Things…

1.  I love saying, “I’m going to band practice.”  Or, “I’m coming back from band practice.” Or “I just left band practice.”  Or “Band practice was a lot of fun.”  I’m driving Sydney Rose crazy!!

2.  I LOVE BAND PRACTICE!!!  Just saying.

3.  Fortunately, I can only get better on the guitar!

4.  And I thought my wrists were sore from shooting hoops!  I had no idea!!  Standing up playing guitar is a whole different ballgame.

5.  We did a punk version of one of Charles Law’s original country rock songs. We fuckin’ rocked it!!

6.  I imagine I’m a cross between Courtney Love and Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders.

7.  There is no reality in the previous statement.

8.  Someone mentioned recently that life gets better after a certain age.  I have to say that life gets better when you decide to finally chase down your dreams.  You can do this anytime.  Start!!

9.  Next up, surfing!

10.  Speaking of surfing…Surf Rodeo was this weekend.  We had a blast!  Sold all kinds of VenturaRocks.com t-shirts.  Two days of fun at Pierpont Beach with music and surf, Ventura is definitely my kind of town!

11.  The fact that I lost my hat, camera, and purse on three separate occasions during the two days of Surf Rodeo, and I managed to find all three in tact (eventually), only goes to prove how much Ventura Rocks!

12.  From my “Favorite Facebook Posts” file: A friend recently posted a quote, but the author was listed as Unknown. It’s a worthy quote and I found the author:

“Life isn’t about finding yourself, it’s about creating yourself” – George Bernard Shaw.   I agree, “WORD!”

Thanks for listening!
